Mission

The Tampa Wolverines Youth Football and Cheerleading Program is a 501(c)3 tax-exempt non-profit organization. Originally founded as the Tampa Hurricanes in 2010, our mission is to provide, regardless of race, color, or creed, the following opportunities to the youth of this community: to participate in controlled athletic competition; to instill the belief of fair play, good conduct and sportsmanship at all times; to teach the values of Integrity, Honor, Respect, Loyalty, Personal Courage, and Teamwork; to promote a common interest and tolerance among youth; and to keep the welfare of youth free from any adult compulsion for power or glory.

With our communities’ assistance we will provide a haven for our inner city youth (ages 5-14) allowing them to learn the fundamentals of football and cheerleading, as well as teaching self-discipline, academic excellence, moral values, social skills and, most importantly, the art of giving back to the community.

We pride ourselves on offering registration at an affordable cost that has remained the same for more than 10 years because we believe every child should have the opportunity to participate regardless of financial means.

It is our vision to continue growing our program by providing more kids with a chance to enjoy the sports of football and cheer! The costs of running a youth sports organization are high and we look to sponsors to help us fund the programming and equipment needs for our program.

History of the organization

Originally founded in 2012 as the Tampa Hurricanes Youth Football and Cheer organization we have become the premier program in our surrounding area. Our Founding President Mrs. Latrece (Tracy) Dawkins believed that a strong organization is built through positivity, unity, and togetherness. She was a real example of what hard work combined with determination can produce. We are forever grateful of the foundation she established years ago.

Past and current president(s) include: Joel Germain (2020 – 2021), Kimerlyn Gibson (2021 – 2023), Cedrick Gaynor (2023 – current)

In 2021, Mrs. Kimerlyn “Kim” Gibson made a decision to change the name of the organization to the Tampa Wolverines. This was done out of respect and in honor of the legacy established under the founding president.

Today as the Tampa Wolverines our mission remains the same as it has for more than a decade. We strive to provide a haven for our inner city youth (ages 5-14) allowing them to learn the fundamentals of football and cheerleading, as well as teaching self-discipline, academic excellence, moral values, social skills and, most importantly, the art of giving back to the community.

Team Accomplishments:

Message from our President

Greetings Wolverine Nation,

I am honored to serve as the New President of this organization. As I embark on this great opportunity to serve our players, parents, coaching staff, and community, I believe strongly that my passion for the game and the commitment to serve will ultimately inspire others to get involved and be an active volunteer in our program.  As the president, I am aware that there will be times that I will be expected to complete unglamorous tasks. Through my perseverance and passion for our players I promise to drive the success of our program.

I am very grateful for the volunteers and their dedication to making this the best program. It is my intention to lead by example and be an active participant in all aspects of the program. Wolverine Nation can rest comfortably knowing that I will always be transparent and honest with our community. As a leader, I hope to earn your respect and wish that you will follow in our footsteps.  We will grow as an organization and you too will understand that it truly takes an army of families to build Wolverine Nation.

Our players/cheerleaders will be our number #1 priority and we will strive to keep them motivated to succeed in all aspects of life.  Our players/cheerleaders will learn teamwork, respect for each other, admiration for their coaches, they will experience heartbreak and defeat and they will celebrate their wins.  As a staff we will provide a healthy environment, support education, & set expectations out of love for our players/cheerleaders for the exceptional human beings that they are becoming in this chapter of life.

In closing, I look forward to many great football games, cheer competitions, social events, and the memories that we will all cherish for years to come!  Let’s go Wolverines!

Best regards,
CeeJay Gaynor
